The last round of the 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup was held on Montmelo, Spain past weekend.
While drivers' title was no longer on stake, the one for teams do was - thus good results from both our team points scoring drivers were needed, and that's what they delivered.
In saturday's race 1, Carlos Sainz jr. finished second, ahead of Daniil Kvyat, who made a massive charge from 18th on the grid to the podium, setting the fastest laptime as well. John Bryant-Meisner finished 16th, Hans Villemi retired on 13th lap.
On Sunday Sainz jr. scored another second place finish. Hans Villemi enjoyed his best performance and result of the season, coming home in 10th. Daniil Kvyat, second on the grid, retired due to technical failure, as did retire John Bryant-Meisner.
In drivers' championship, Sainz jr. finished second overall and Kvyat just behind him in third.
But no season without gold medal and huge, half-a-team-boss-size trophy: Koiranen bros. Motorsport is the 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup champion team! Indeed a great pleasure after last season's bitter sweet vice champion's title.
All the racing is now done for this year - next up in the program is winter testing for new drivers.
Whenever it happens, we'll keep you posted - stay tuned!
